Anita Newman (1946-)
UK born and Sydney-based artist. Has produced many oil paintings since 1970 with idyllic rural landscapes. Her style has been variously described as “Victorian”, ‘traditional’ and ‘romantic’ which are all good words to assign to an Impressionist. Anita Newman is known for her paintings, sculptures, and installations. She was born in Melbourne, Australia, and studied at the National Gallery School and the Victorian College of the Arts. Newman has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Australia and internationally.
Newman's art is characterized by her use of bold colors and geometric shapes, and her work often explores themes of memory, identity, and place. She is also known for her public artworks, including murals and sculptures.
In addition to her art practice, Newman has been involved in arts education and community projects. She has taught at several institutions in Australia, including the Victorian College of the Arts and RMIT University, and has been involved in community art projects in Melbourne.
