John Hingerty was born in Sydney, New South Wales, in 1930. Although he lacked formal art training, his passion for painting led him to pursue a professional artistic career in 1972. Prior to this, he had a successful career in management and design within the fashion footwear industry.
Hingerty's artistic journey was marked by dedication and continuous learning. He honed his craft under the guidance of renowned artists such as W. Chandler, L. Trapell, and O. Kuster. His commitment to the art form resulted in ten solo exhibitions and numerous joint exhibitions in Sydney galleries. His work is held in private and corporate collections across Australia and abroad.
His preferred subjects included landscapes, marine scenes, cityscapes, florals, and still life. He excelled in various mediums, with oil being his favorite, but he was equally proficient with watercolors, acrylics, and pastels.
Hingerty was a sought-after figure for painting demonstrations and workshops within art groups. He occasionally conducted painting seminars in all mediums. His travels in search of inspiration always included his fishing gear, paints, and canvas.
John Hingerty's impact extended beyond his art; he served as President of the St. George Art Society for 15 years and received life membership in 1992. He was also a valued member of the Southern Cross Art Group. His legacy as a talented and dedicated artist endures, even after his passing in 2019.
