Jose Pedrol is an obscure painter about whom little information can be found. Other work by him has featured Spanish scenes, so he may have come here from Spain and then returned. Even the years in which he was active are elusive ; his style however is consistent with Australian landscape artists since the 1970s who have leant more to colour and detail and less toward the ochre-ridden landscapes that 50-60s artists favoured. Pedrol’s works are focused on the central western tablelands of New South Wales and depict its villages with great care and affection. I think he is an excellent painter and much overlooked.
