Michael Cartwright

Michael Cartwright is a prolific Australian landscape artist. His love for art may have been inherited from his father, an accomplished artist and art teacher who mentored Michael early in his career. Michael prefers oil paint and has developed various landscape styles and techniques over the years. He typically paints spontaneously with a palette knife, creating thick, textured works that emphasize color, contrast, and depth.

Living in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, Michael draws inspiration from the area's beautiful scenery, including river scenes, karri trees, country cottages, and seascapes. He also finds inspiration in the diverse landscapes of North Western Australia, such as the Kimberley region, the golden outback, and Karijini National Park.

Michael enjoys painting and sketching outdoors, believing that nature enhances perception. "Plein Air" painting has been crucial to his learning process, teaching him to quickly and accurately capture colours and values before the light changes.
