Allison Shaw
Allison Shaw (born England, 1941) trained as a nursing sister before pursuing her passion for painting. She travelled extensively through Europe, Canada and the United States before settling in Australia in 1968. Largely self-taught as an artist, she has painted full time since 1970.
Shaw works primarily in oils, with Australian landscapes as her main subject. She is particularly known for capturing the mood and atmosphere of the bush — misty mornings, hidden waterholes, and the quiet character of the Australian countryside. Her works have a broad appeal and have been exhibited widely in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, including joint exhibitions with her husband, fellow artist Geoff McKenzie, at the Armidale Regional Gallery and Sale Regional Gallery among others.
Over the years Shaw and McKenzie have undertaken many painting tours across Australia and to England and Europe, maintaining studio galleries at various locations including Magnetic Island, Anglesea, Guildford and the Sunshine Coast, where they are now based.
Her work is held in private collections throughout Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Japan and the Middle East
