John Sharman is a highly accomplished Australian artist, born in Sydney in 1947. He transitioned to full-time professional art practice in 1980 and has since become known for his realist-impressionist style. John paints a variety of subjects including landscapes, seascapes, still lifes, and beach scenes, and he often works plein-air, painting directly on location.
Throughout his career, John has been part of a community of talented artists, sharing memorable painting adventures with colleagues like Bob Simpson, Doug Sealy, Robert Wilson, and Warwick Fuller. His work emphasizes balance, striving to make every element of his pieces equally significant.
Over the past 25 years, John has had 26 solo exhibitions and has participated in countless group shows. His artistic achievements are further highlighted by over 200 awards, including multiple wins at prestigious competitions such as the Peter Stuyvesant Cultural Foundation Award, Caltex Art Award, and the Junee Art Award. His work is held in many collections across Australia and internationally.
John spent much of his adult life living on the South Coast of New South Wales, with the last 28 years in the small town of Mogo. Unfortunately, both his home and studio were destroyed in the New Year's Eve fires, along with nearly 1,000 of his artworks.
Despite these challenges, John’s passion for art remains steadfast, a journey that began in his childhood when he was a compulsive drawer. His dedication and talent have made him one of Australia’s most respected regional artists, with a legacy spanning decades of exhibitions and accolades.
