Despite limited formal training, he honed his craft under mentors like Arthur Murch and Henry Hanke at the Royal Art Society. Since his first solo exhibition in 1971, Wilson has showcased his paintings in over forty exhibitions across Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, and beyond. For two decades, Wilson imparted his knowledge as a painting instructor at Charles Sturt University's Mitchell School of Creative Arts in Bathurst. Today, he continues to share his expertise at events like the Grafton Artsfest, where he teaches and judges art competitions. Wilson's works adorn collections worldwide, including prestigious institutions like the Westpac and Commonwealth Bank collections. He is celebrated for capturing the essence of the Australian outback in his art, reflecting his deep connection to its landscapes and communities
